Joined Conatus Sponte in Spring, 1354 A.A. (or 1214 Anno Domini)

Background

Rene is a congenial and friendly wizard who was taken from a life of squalor in the slums of Paris at the age of seven and raised in Monte-Sainte-Genevieve by the easy-going Jerbiton, Etienne. Rene found that magic came easily to him and despite his tendency for carousing and womanizing he was able to complete his apprentices studies and duties satisfactorily (if not exceptionally well). Upon completing his gauntlet Rene decided to begin approaching the Art with a bit more dedication and traveled to the more rural covenant of Conatus Sponte where there would be fewer distractions.

Character

Rene is not plagued by the usual social hindrances that curse most wizards (although some members of Conatus Sponte would probably say that Rene is not gifted with a wizard's usual ability to repel the mundane). He gets on well with the coven folk and other mundanes, having a particular soft spot for those of impoverished backgrounds. The Order's (and his fellow magi's) callous view of the common folk has caused Rene some amount of concern over the years.

Rene is most proficient with the Muto technique, although he strives to be well rounded in the magical arts rather than specializing in one. Rene tends to cast his magic quite casually. His gestures are imprecise and he frequently just whispers or mouths the incantations. In fact Rene is capable of casting without motions or vocalizations entirely but many years of practice have left him in the habit of making token gestures and whispers.

Rene also has an aptitude for bending the truth (until it is, some might say, almost thoroughly unrecognizable), an aptitude he has had no end of practice with while traveling with his rather conspicuous companions Quintus and Teuthras.

In Summer 1218 A.D. Rene met Marie, a young woman with an innate gift for finding vis. Three years later Rene and Marie welcomed their first child, Gabriel Filius Titanae, into the world, under some somewhat unusual conditions. In the Winter of 1224 their second son, Azarel Corpus Calidus, was born. After an early birth the infant had a difficult first year but survived. Investigations by Teuthras of the two boys at the birth of the second son revealed that both possessed the Gift, with Azarel being particularly entwined with the Art. In 1226 Rene took Gabriel as his apprentice and sent him to Julius the scribe to begin his training in the reading and writing of Latin.

Rene's own rather different gift has given him a desire to do further research into the exact nature of the gift of magi and others. Like all good researchers he is not above investigating the properties of his family and friends.
