Ali, a mujedar swordsmith (John Machin)

*clang! clang! clang!* The sounds of the forge greet you before even reach the door to the workshop, as the door swings open a swarthy man looks up at you. "May you be welcome, guest; I will be finished in the merest of moments" he says quickly in Aragonese before returning to his work.

History, Activities, etc

Ali abd al-Wahid al-Andalusi, whose mother was a Moor and whose unknown father was presumably a Spaniard, hails from Toledo and is a pious and self-effacing craftsman.

He deals with routine maintenance of the Pech's arsenal, and has completed some detailed work for Sertorious (namely some decorative work on his sword, and the modification of his armour to allow for wings(!)).

Ali is fairly quiet, but enjoys the company of others and tries to get on well the other staff of the fortress. He greatly enjoys the fact that a co-religionist, Rafi, lives in the fortress and likes to take time to visit him as often as possible.

Ali spends about two seasons each year, spread out through the year, doing work for clients and maintaining the arsenal. He also spends about another season practicing his craft diligently. Finally he spends his last season each year talking with other inhabitants of the fortress, although he would like to find a Quran to study as well.

Ali's Workshop

Ali has had a workshop built for him by Sir Bertrand so that he may practice his craft. Coming to the covenant in a period of comparative plenty, he was able to have it properly outfitted.

There are, at present, no assistants or apprentices helping Ali in his work and no improvements to the workshop: Ali produces 27 LP per season and generates a Workshop Total of 9. 36 LP are needed to keep the arsenal in good condition and to perform other tasks around fortress, so Ali works for two seasons at this.

Ali is trying to reproduce the conditions needed for making higher quality steel, and his excess LP (18 LP per year) are spent trying to improve the workshop's Raw Materials to +1. As of 1224 he has accumulated 36/50 LP and expects to have worked things out by the end of 1225.
