PotIS: Ravenmane

Ravenmane has not served aboard the Steps for very long but certainly his time as part of the crew has been memorable. The halfling possesses a great enthusiasm for sea travel, but regretably he is ignorant of the skills required of a proficient seaman. Not that it would matter anyway since he reguarly shirks his duties, spending his time exploring the ship or entertaining the crew by juggling flaming skulls, much to their 'delight'.

Ravenmane has long jet black hair, straight as an arrow, which is always pulled back in a high pony tail, centred on the crown of his scalp. He's of average height, for a halfling, and thin build. He's gregarious, friendly and insatiably curious. Its not that he has no respect for the rule of law, or that he detests rules; rather he always fails to take any notice of them. This obliviousness towards rules and laws, coupled with his curiosity, tends to get him into trouble. Unfortunately it is usually his adventuring compatriots who pay the ultimate price.

Ravenmane has always been an inquisitive little halfling. From an early age he pestered anyone with his endless questions. The adults in his clan of travelling halfling entertainers, clan Tealeaf, tried their best to humour the young halfling's curiosity but even the eternal patience of the clan's Matriarch was worn thin, and broke on occassion. But his overwhelming curiosity about magic started with his rather fruitless training under the tutelage of a young Sembian wizard. Unfortunately Ravenmane's innate talent for magic was incompatible with the wizard's teachings, even though Ravenmane readily absorbed any and all lessons about arcane lore and the working of magicks. Eventually the Sembian wizard grew so frustrated with Ravenmane's lack of success that he demanded twice the payment from clan Tealeaf even though he had not even provided the full number of lessons agreed upon. Unfortunately the magistrates of Saerloon sided with the wizard and clan Tealeaf was forced to pay. But they had now intention of allowing such an injustice persist. Ravenmane along with his mentor in the illicit arts broke into the house of the wizard in an attempt to redress the injustice, but an unfortunate accident alerted the wizard to their presence, and during their hasty getaway Ravenmane's mentor was run over by a cart and killed, while Ravenmane was caught and condemned to the silver mines of Sembia. However, Ravenmane was able to escape, but during the course of it he accidently allowed all of the murderers and arsonists awaiting transport out of the prison and into the streets of Saerloon. His separation from clan Tealeaf left the young halfling with a great vista of possibilities before him. He swore a solemn oath to find clan Tealeaf and be reunited with his family! But first he'll check out that abandoned building over there, just for a minute...

Ravenmane's perceptions of his fellow crewmembers

Roglanar - As fine a performer as you could want to help pass the seemingly endless hours of drudgery involved in sailing a ship. Unfortunately the Pirate King seems to lack my insatiable interest in all things magical, which strikes me as odd for a bard. The combination of arcane magicks and sword play make him a deadly adversary, and no one can question Roglanar's bravery, after he volunteered to be the bait for a weretiger. Surprisingly for a giant, his ability to remain unseen and unheard nearly matches my own! His raw skill with magicks is not to be underestimated. I look forward with great relish to our next "Arcane Duel", although I'll have to be wary of his ability to implant suggestions.

Serlo - Far too serious. Does the man ever smile? It must be wearing that uncomfortable looking armour which sours his mood so. And he is far too intent on wealth. Doesn't he realise that money is merely a means to an end, and not an end itself? He seems to think of himself as some sort of great warrior, but from my observations Kordeth is far more deadly, while Serlo is rather ineffectual. He is under the thrall of his temper, which he allows to dictate his actions far too often. Even Kordeth, whose rage is a truly terrible sight to behold, does not allow his anger to so completely cloud his judgement. Why if I hadn't stopped him we never would have captured that crewman of the Bleak Brine and we would have been ignorant of the imminent attack. And the thanks I get? Tossed into the water! However, his fear of the undead is quite fascinating and should be taken advantage of. Perhaps a few, well-timed illusions...

Megan - A fascinating creature, indeed! Despite her rather ordinary appearance, she possesses many incredible powers. Her ability to assume the form of almost any aquatic animal is marvelous, whether the fearsome giant cephlapod (at times a giant BURNING cephlapod) or a perfectly non-descript, almost invisible, clown fish. She very generously and heroically gave me the final cure for the Aboleth's affliction, which means that she is forced to spend most of her time submerged in water, not that she seems to mind. Nevertheless it is a debt to be repaid!

Kordeth - Handy to have around in tight spot, if said tight spot requires the grisly removal of ribcages from torsos! I've witnessed this impressive sea-elf soak the decks of several ships with waves of blood. His apparent ambivalence about life and death is a touch disconcerting, but at least he seems to favour me. I feel a small amount of guilt at his 'death' if that's what it was, since I accompanied both him and Roglanar on the ill fated mission. I deeply empathise with Kordeth's rejection of the tired concept of 'ownership', whatever THAT means! All 'round, a valued companion, who seems quite the able seaman.
