PotIS: TheJournalOfTheirynDepthdreamer

Physical description:

The diary is a large book about a foot on each side and about 5 inches thick. The covers are made of a rich, brown leather of indeterminate origin. It is bound with brass, finished with gold and on the cover is a flowing script embossed with gold inlay. Over the top of the script lies a long strip of what appears to be amber or coloured glass.

The paper of the diary is very thin but a detailed examination reveals that the paper is in fact impossibly thin, with more pages in the book than could ever possibly be held between the covers.

The diary is written by Theiryn Depthdreamer, and first dates back over 350 years ago. The entries sometimes include pictures, apparently drawn by Theiryn, who is quite a good artist it seems. The tone of the diary is factual and somber. It documents Theiryn's travels throughout the Inner Sea. It seems he traveled widely for a period of 300 years and visited almost every conceivable place that borders on the Sea of Fallen Stars.

On the rare occasions the diary does wax lyrical it is always mournful. Theiryn it seems was trying for forget a lost love of some sort. He refers occasionally to her by name: "Alshava". A few pictures of a woman are drawn near the entries. The seem to be of an almost certainly fey woman, with a tragic look in her eye.

Theiryn also seems to be a very religious man, in a somewhat odd way. He makes reference to the Triad in numerous entries, occasionally blessing them, occasionally cursing them and sometimes displaying a casualness that borders on blasphemy with them.

The 'Triad' Theiryn seems to have worshipped is the goddess Sune, Tymora and Llira. He speaks of a place called Brightwater where the trio is said to reside. He speaks as if he has been there.

Around the Time of Troubles the diary begins to get more intense. Theiryn seemed to sense the coming of something of ill nature years before the fall of the gods. When he learned of it he made a dedicated effort to find the members of the Triad on the face of Faerun. This is the only time in the diary where he has left the Sea of Fallen Stars.
He seemed to be concerned for the safety of the goddesses.

Nearing the end of the Time of Troubles, the tone of the diary changes. Theiryn seems to have become more driven and his voyages have more purpose. He seeks something he refers to only as "The Heart".

Theiryn's descriptions of his later travels are increasingly hard to follow. He makes references to a map which is not present and uses relative directions, rather than absolutes - "fore and left for 21 miles" or "back and port for a tenday at low wind".

The final entry of Theiryn Depthdreamer(1359, Time of Troubles):

"With the location of The Heart uncovered this journal and the map become too valuable to keep together. Even as I fend off the minions of Beesheba, I can feel the shadows watching. Shar has uncovered my secret and she will not be so easily thwarted.
Yet I cannot proceed until I have reclaimed what I had thought I had given up. Alshava forgive me and may her sister have mercy.
I leave this journal here in the custody of the Waukeenar as partial reclamation of their debt to us. I shall reclaim it if I ever return from the Bleak Shore.
The map I take, as always, with me, although she will hide her charts so that only those who walk with Llira may find her secrets. From her shoulders I leap and take the The Steps of Life for the first time in 500 years.
