PseudoBritannia: Magic

Britannian Magic Keywords

Some of the Magic keywords possessed by the inhabitants of Britannia.

The Virtuous Philosophy

The Virtuous Philosophy is the system of thought that was promoted by the King through the Society of Spirituality. Despite the disintegration of that Society, the Philosophy remains very popular. It is not like other "organisations" since there is no hierarchy or organisation as such. Rather this movement is "joined" by those who seek to pursue a deeper comprehension of the Virtues. Some Spiritual Orders actively promote dedication to the Philosophy, while others refuse to educate others in something so important - believing that personal comprehension is the key.

Entry Requirements: Anyone can start to embark on the path towards comprehension of the Philosophy, in theory; however this level of commitment is rarely reached by those who have not obtained 1m in at least one of the Virtues.

Homelands: Almost every part of Britannia has followers of the Virtuous Philosophy.

Abilities and Virtues: Follower of the Virtuous Philosophy [piety], Teachings of the Virtuous Philosophy [myths], Sense Virtue [perception], Meditation, Recognise Seeker. The virtues are the Virtues, and those who devote themselves often gain the reputation Seeker, which is the nearest thing this movement has to a mundane relationship.

Magic: The Virtuous Philosophy itself offers no magic, although there are legends of highly devoted persons being able to invoke the cosmic principles of Right Action in order to perform miraculous deeds.

Secret: Despite the lack of directly useful magic, some persist in believing that there is a secret behind the Philosophy. How to attain it and what it is remains unknown, but some still strive to seek it.

Special: Anyone can gain this keyword, regardless of concentration on other forms of magic.

The Shining Path

The Shining Path is a group within the Society of Honour that is based in the fortress of Swordhold. They are responsible for the protection of the King's Sword, part of the regalia of the King, and are considered to be masterful combatants and staunch protectors of the King's Legacy.

Entry Requirements: The Shining Path demands that its members are Honourable and highly skilled in Sword Fighting; a prospective member must also have a sponsor who is already a member, although it is rare that a promising candidate goes long without a sponsor.

Homelands: Since it is part of the Society of Honour, the Shining Path are traditionally associated with Trinsic and its environs although it has members from almost every part of Britannia.

Entry Requirements: The Two Moons accepts members who have committed beliefs in the Virtues, particularly Valour, Compassion, and Sacrifice, and who are prepared to live a humble, selfless, although often dangerous, life.

Homelands: Many of the monks of the Two Moons come from the Shielding Ranges or Kendalton, although the fame of the Order is somewhat widespread amongst Seekers.
