The Roll of Years
Being the timeline for the game.
Years are reckoned in Haelyn’s Count, recording the passage of time since the battle of Mount Deismaar. (The current year, 1524 HC, is equivalent to 551 MR).
Following the death of Roele the empire crumbled. All who had anticipated vying for the Emperor’s favour now found the Emperor’s very throne within their grasp and the power-hungry dukes and lords of Anuire fell into a prolonged period of civil war and tenuous alliances. The subject peoples of the empire – the Brechts, the Khinasi, and the Rjurik – rebelled and reclaimed their independence.
Of course, the chaos could not continue forever. Waiting until many of the Anuirean lords had exhausted themselves through years of armed conflict, the Gorgon launched a nearly overwhelming invasion. Only by unifying under the one banner were Anuire’s nobles able to rally sufficient forces to stop his conquering forces, though years of struggle lay before them before those forces were eventually driven back to Markazor and the Gorgon’s Crown. From this unity arose a reborn empire.
Today, the bulk of the country lies uneasy and divided. Though he was not a bad ruler, the emperor Elladain Roele I (formerly Elladain Cariele) was unable to resolve many of the outstanding grievances and disputes prevalent throughout the realm before his untimely death. Anuire stands on the brink of war as powerful lords and dukes seek to manoeuvre themselves into position to claim the Iron Throne.

A blow from Raesene snaps the garter strap holding Aemon’s breastplate in place, leaving him unprotected. The 25 surviving members of the household guard rush forward to defend their commander. Rising to his feet Aemon challenges Raesene to single combat and wounds Raesene four times before dying. The other members of the household guard refuse to give way before the Gorgon and all fall before his sword. Their sacrifice ensures the Mhor’s family escapes to safety. The invasion is later repulsed by an imperial army under the Mhor’s command on the line of the Maesil. Shieldhaven is built to replace the old fortress. |

The Gorgon’s army is unable to force the Mhelliviene Pass and is decimated by a combined force including sidhe archers from Tuarhievel. Shaene learned too late that his brother had died of poisons administered by the deadly awnshegh assassin Daryn Theros, now known as the Diabolyk. At the moment of Shaene’s coronation, the Diabolyk revealed himself and slaughtered a number of guards. However, his plan of gaining the Iron Throne was stopped by the will of the child-emperor. The State Crown’s sielshegh gems flared brightly as Shaene drew upon their power and commanded the Diabolyk to leave. The awnshegh laughed - until it met Shaene’s eyes and fled for its life. It is said that the Diabolyk thereafter feared only two things: the Gorgon and his Imperial Majesty Shaene Roele II of Anuire. |

1061 | The Gorgon invades Anuire. Without aid Mhoried and Elinie soon fall. A goblin horde descends down from the Five Peaks, linking with forces in Mhoried and conquering much of Alamie. Over the next two years the Heartlands and Eastern Marches fall, with the sole exceptions of Avanil and western Diemed. Talinie falls to an army from Thurazor, reinforced with giants and orogs under the command of the Gorgon. Boeruine is hard-pressed but holds. |

All subsequent emperors follow this policy and the name ‘Roele’ becomes something of a title in and of itself. |

Only the presence of the Anuirean emperor on the field prevents a rout. |

After many days of battle the goblin hordes, starving and low on supplies, break on the field of battle and are routed. The battle marks the final defeat of the Gorgon’s forces on Anuirean soil, though many small bands of goblin warriors remain they are hunted down over the following months and years and put to the sword. |

Landen is renamed Marloer’s Gap in honour of the baron’s last stand. In Elinie, the Elinien army holds bravely but eventually buckles before superior numbers. A massed charge by the knights of the Holy Order of Haelyn’s Aegis prevents a rout and saves the day, though many of the knights fall. |
