to:
Once upon a time, two friends formed a close friendship and decided to live near each other. The first made her home on the sea, making her living by that she could acquire from the waters, while the second lived on land, living off of what she could produce and herd. It was not long after they had agreed upon this plan that there came a time of storm and famine. The first, being in want of provision, snuck into the second one’s home while the second was out, and stole the stores the first had put away. To disguise her theft, she broke things, as if a wild animal had destroyed the stores.
The second, on her return, discovered what had happened, and the human footprints in the dirt revealed the truth. However, she was less grieved at the loss of her stores than for her inability to avenge herself.
A just retribution, however, quickly fell upon the first.
The first, emboldened by her success, stole another box. Carrying it to her home, she lay her stolen supplies with the rest of her stores. Once it was safely secure, she lit a torch to see her cargo. Leaning over with the fiery brand, she peered into the box.
As she did so, a spark fell from it, falling into the box which contained a flammable oil. It caught fire, and in spite of the thief's efforts, her stores were destroyed.
