Teuthras filius Strachys scholae Criamon
< Phoca | Covenant Population | Quintus Quirite >
"Twilight divides the blessed from the wretched and mundane. Before taking the path of Twilight, a magus is a vulgar mortal pursuing dreams of magic. Once the first steps toward Final Twilight begin, the magus aligns his body and spirit with the realm of magic. As Final Twilight approaches, your very soul shakes lose the chains binding it to the dark earth and takes on the reflection of the heavens beyond."
- The teachings of the Cult of Twilight
The child who later became the magus known as Teuthras was born in Alpine Germany in 1335 A.A.. He was taken as the apprentice of Strachys filius Kosmou scholae Criamon ad Caverna Umbrę Torquentes in 1338 A.A.. Strachys, as a member of a secretive mystae society that was founded on the teachings of Empedocles, taught both the Hermetic Arts and the classical teachings of the Greeks in order to prepare his apprentice for a lifetime of studying ars theurgia. Fifteen years later, with his training completed, Teuthras was Gauntleted in the Criamon domus magna the Cave of Twisting Shadow, in the Helvetia Tribunal. After the passing of his Gauntlet Teuthras undertook the first steps on the road to magical salvation through Twilight by mastering and casting the Initiation of the Ochema ritual and thereby becoming a full member of the Cult of Twilight.
While attending his first Tribunal Teuthras learned of a winter covenant in Bretagne that was seeking young magi to revitalise it somewhat. He had also heard that this covenant was situated in a powerful and curious aura. Motivated by a desire to experience firsthand the myriad permutations of magic and a desire to be of some use to the Order that had educated him Teuthras resolved to travel to distant Bretagne and join Conatus Sponte, if they would have him.
Teuthras added his name and sigil to the Charter of Conatus Sponte in Spring, 1354 A.A.. Since he was the first of the 'new magi' to arrive, he has the vaguely discomforting position of being ranked first among them.
In Spring, 1358 A.A. Teuthras began his active pursuit of demiurgy by performing his first Salvation's Progress ritual with his fellow Cultists who reside in Bretagne.
In Spring, 1374 A.A. Teuthras began to summon and bond with a parhedros named Euandros. This process was completed in Winter, 1374 A.A..
Teuthras was taken at a very early age and has no recollection of his vulgar life and speaks only Latin; although recently he has picked up Ancient Greek from somewhere...
Teuthras has an affinity for the Vim form and is interested in the "intelligences" of the four realms and in how the realms interrelate. He is also highly skilled in the Creo, Intellego, and Rego techniques. Teuthras is a fairly skilled theurgist for one of his age, and he has demonstrated a desire to actively explore the interactions and peculiarities of each of the four realms, which has caused his sodales some small amount of worry.
Teuthras has not had a typical Medieval Christian upbringing, instead his life in the Cave of Twisting Shadow was occupied by the teachings of the ancient neo-Platonists. He has sworn several vows of abstinence, to keep his commitment to the magical realm free from "terrestrial contamination". Sobriety, vegetarianism, celibacy and avoidance of politics are only part of this sometimes bewildering set of self-imposed prohibitions. Perhaps the strangest of them though is his unusual level of discomfort with asymmetry. Teuthras also dislikes animals, except for birds, although whether this arises from a personal problem or from the magical deficiency with the Animal form that he inherited from his parens is not entirely clear.
Teuthras, for some reason, has a reputation amongst some members of the Order of Hermes as a dangerous fanatic, but we all know that he is really just unfairly maligned. Since his arrival he has seemed somewhat colder, although few feel able to comment since his personal habits are not widely known. The recent bonding with his parhedros Euandros has also wrought some changes on his personality, the full scope of which have yet to be discovered by his sodales.
Teuthras is tall, but very slight. He has very pale blond hair, that is quite thin which he tends to keep short. He wears no facial hair. His eyes are very blue and quite large, although not unusually so; he tends to gaze at things with great intensity. His face is not heavily tatooed, as is often the case with followers of Criamon; instead he bears the signs of his training and his Twilight on his arms, chest, back, and neck. From the traceries that escape the sleeves of his robe and down onto his wrists it is clear that they are quite sophisticated.
Teuthras carries himself with a degree of certainty that is suprising, sometimes appealingly so and at others times slightly worrying. He speaks clearly and eloquently, but frequently confuses others with his topics of conversation.
Teuthras wears the plain grey robes of a scholar; the silver sigil ring around his neck is his only jewellery. He normally carries a straight staff, carved with all kinds of peculiar and wonderful designs.
