They arrive safely and Clement begins his research with the blessing of the Brother Abbot. He is interrupted when Sir Dominic calls him over to inspect a book which Dominic thinks Clement will be interested in. Dominic had been unsuccessfully insisting the librarian tell him about a book that Dominic had noticed being delivered in secret by a young monk and he new that Clement would be able to convince the librarian to share some of the books secrets. Clement convinces the librarian that he can help him assess the books nature, and they decide that it is a heretical text. After hearing some of the book Clement emerges into the main library and informs Dominic of what he has discovered.

Meanwhile Rafi is taken to the river by a friendly herbalist monk, who shows him where some local medicinal plants grow. Rafi investigates the area and finds a dead body floating in the river. The man passed recently, but shows no sign of the manner in which he was killed; he is wearing robes, has long black hair, but his face appears unusually old, and he has a brand on his forearm. Rafi alerts Dominic and the soldiers, they discover that his ring has been stolen; he is however still wearing a necklace with several round stones attached. They find some other possessions further along the river beneath a bridge, which include a leather binding, possibly made to hold a book, and a wand, both of which bear the symbol of a skeletal hand.

Back at the covenant the recovered evidence is presented to the magi. Titus and Sertorius both recognise the skeletal hand as the sigil of a fellow Tytalus magus but cannnot recall any details about him.

Changed lines 8-9 from:
As the magi slept, [[Titus]] found himself in the throes of a peculiar dream. While not being more or less disturbing than normal, he was joined in the dreamscape by the other three magi and a curious cat. The bizarre vista and violent conflicts of the giants proceeded as normal, but instead of being drowned by the assault of the watery titans the magi found themselves upon the back of a great dragon as it flew towards a distant mountain range. The dragon circled above a set of three great pillars of stone that seemed to either rise from the range, or to be part of it, and then the magi all awoke. An impromptu conference between [[Sertorius]], [[Zeebebah]] (accompanied by a crying [[Arwa]]), and Titus was held in Titus' chambers where it was revealed that every Gifted individual in the covenant had experienced the same dream. None of the magi could arrive at a generally accepted interpretation for the draconic vision but most decided that it should be investigated, to Titus' poorly concealed distaste.
